“Be a Rainbow in Someone Else’s Cloud”

“Be a Rainbow in Someone Else’s Cloud”

Time has come to breathe new life into The Essential Toolkit. We want to do so by introducing you to our new motto: "Prepare yourself so that you can a rainbow in someone else's cloud". This wonderful metaphor was coined by Dr. Maya Angelou, an even more admirable and impressing woman.

Maya Angelou's powerful metaphor allows everyone to comprehend one of the most fundamental principles of human interactions. Doing the right thing for another human being in times of desperate need truly does - sometimes metaphorically, sometimes literally - save a life.

Maya Angelou - An intense life

Born on the 4th of April 1928, she has led an intense, turbulent life that ended in 2014 in North Carolina. As she tells in her autobiography, she had been raped as a child which made her fall silent for the next five years. It was this time of silence that sparked her passion for poetry and lyric. This passion remained throughout her whole life: She was a storyteller, an actor, a poet, an autobiographer, a singer, a journalist. It was her who wrote and read out to the world the poem of Bill Clintons' inauguration in 1993. Furthermore, she was a professor and an influential civil rights activist, playing an important role in the civil rights movement of African Americans in the US. One could go on like this for hours, but the point is clear: Maya Angelou is an inspiring lady, knowing the ups and downs of life, knowing about the power that words can have but also being brave enough to take action. The world needs great minds as she was one and so we want to pay tribute to her by taking her words as a guideline for our work:

"Prepare yourself so that you can be a rainbow in someone else's cloud".

by Maya Angelou

Our choice fell on this statement because we feel it represents our intention to help others by helping caregivers working with potentially traumatized people. We are teaching them methods inspired by modern trauma therapy, giving them the skills they desperately need for working with emotionally distressed and potentially traumatized people. For free. The only thing one has to invest is time, dedication and attention to detail. We are showing them how they can be a rainbow in someone else's cloud. We would like to give you the opportunity to be a rainbow in someone else's cloud.
